Toronto's internationally-acclaimed lakeside performance space and cultural park, Harbourfront Centre, was host to Ashkenaz: A Festival of New Yiddish Culture from August 25th, 1997 through Labour Day September 1st.

The Festival featured world-renowned klezmer bands, jazz artists, poets, singers, authors, actors, dancers and others; many of whom were presented in premiere collaborations. As with the last Festival, most of the performances, workshops, demonstrations and participatory events were free of charge.

Ashkenaz '97 was produced by Nayeh Velt Cultural Initiatives in partnership with the Bloor JCC.
